Work

LMIA: Labour Market Impact Assessment is a process which allows the Canadian employers to fill the labour shortage by hiring foreign nationals. Once the employers get a positive LMIA then the foreign national can apply and get a closed work permit, restricted to the specific employer for a fixed term.

Post graduation work permit is issued to international students after successful completion of their study from the Designated Learning Institution. Its duration depends upon the length of the study program. Post Graduation work permits are same as Open work permit, which means they do not have any restrictions with regards to the employer or the type of employment. However, in some instances some Post Graduation Work Permits do carry restrictions with regards to the type of employment the students could accept because of the Government’s initiative to preserve some occupational competition for the local Canadians. Mostly, these types of restrictions are seen in IT related courses.
